Hey, at least they used pictures from actual students. I remember looking at promotional material from the higher-ed place I attended and I think I spotted one picture of a familiar classroom with someone I knew, with all the other pictures being of total strangers in rooms that I had never seen. As the school was rather small, I was surprised that it was the case, until I suspected the communication department, unsatisfied with what pictures they had, reached for stock photos.

I think if they did that, it would be a lot less of an issue. Here they took a genuine photo and made it fake. It's not representative at all, and it stinks of tokenism which I hate.

If everyone thinks like that, no jobs are created. Xbox hires a ton of people and creates genuine value for consumers. Okay, that last part you can question, but I’m an original Xbox-er so I believe in it.

Another thing in that vein is features that were built because the previous approach was obtuse. For instance, find it harder to explain async/await in JS to people who never experienced callback hell, or why there is a borrow checker in Rust to people who never tried C++.

In well thought out C++ software lifetime rarely becomes an issue because deciding on ownership and object lifetime is unavoidable as part of the design process.

I worked at google for 3 years and can confirm what you've heard. Obviously, every org is somewhat different.

While I agree we need to keep our immigration under control, this is not the solution.
