Why Azure but no AWS? Has Microsoft a datacenter in your country? Also both are US companies with various sister-companies e.g. in Ireland (EU).

Most likely nothing to do with US companies or the "cloud" just specific compliance concerns, the whole sentiment sounds like it came straight of the lips of a circa 2007-8 CTO/CIO of a heavily regulated vertical.

Most real world work is done in privately owned data centers. Hipster's love for AWS or the like isn't going to change that. Netflix rocks on AWS but that doesn't change the reality of data control concerns for most companies in or outside the US.

Yes it is, but it doesn't mean that AWS and similar solutions aren't used for development, DR, and other usecases. When a company uses AWS or Azure it doesn't mean 100% of it's infrastructure is invested in it.

WTF does "hipster" have to do with liking AWS? These lazy insults on HN are just tiring and contribute nothing to a civil discussion.

(And no, I don't use AWS, except for S3 as a dumb storage for encrypted backups.)

AWS was the only cloud provider which guaranteed in writing that the data would not be exposed to anything/anyone in the US.

Bla-bla promises have been given by everyone, but only a formal document can be used to sue for damages in case of violation.
