As far as we know the NYT was not even planning to knife him, the issue is that they want to threaten his patient-doctor relationships by publishing his full name in a place where his mental patients could read it. (He's a practicing psychiatrist with hundreds of patients.)
Yes, it does indeed have some articles about that, but more focused on race and upbringing than gender.
