First, a dedicated GrapheneOS user here. Kudos and mad props to all who create(d) and maintain(ed) it.
Second, I look in the mirror and see a grey beard. I've seen a lot of interpersonal strife in the High Tech world over the decades. I got stung a few times myself, directly and indirectly. I can relate to what I've read of this situation in the other HN thread, which leads me to...
Third, I hope that the personal cost of such a taxing series of events will lead those people affected towards books like this:
as a 3+ year user of GrapheneOS (Pixel 4a 5G) I've been witnessing the strcat calyxos & techlore saga for awhile. It seemed like strcat always sticked to his guns and doubled down, often to his detriment. I hope rest of the team can fill the spots he left without problems.
I went down that rabbit hole yesterday, so I think I can offer some context.
First I started with Louis Rossmann's video. Basically, Louis left a single line comment below a 2 year old Techlore video discussing harassment of CalyxOS and random users by Daniel Micay. Because of this one comment, Micay accused Louis of being partially responsible for swatting attacks on Micay and harassment. You can see the chat in Louis' video.
Next I decided to watch the Techlore video to get a more complete understanding. After all, it could still just be Micay strongly disliking Louis for some reason.
In his video Techlore then shows multiple examples of harassment by Micay targeted at CalyxOS and random users. All examples I heard him mention are backed up with chat logs in the video.
Lastly I watched a rebuttal to Techlore's video by Tom Sparks. Howerver it was obvious he had not actually watched the whole Techlore video and Sparks also mentioned that in his rebuttal. The focus of Spark's video was mainly on the chapter on targeting various companies from Techlore's video. With that focus Sparks basically dismissed Techlore's whole video and also accused Techlore of encouraging harassment of GrapheneOS without any proof at all!
Obviously there are always single individuals in any group that harass others. Here howerver, Louis and Techlore showed up with concrete proof of inacceptable behaviour and harassment while Micay only presents himself as a victim without proof of the harassment he is alleging of others.
"the concrete proof" Louise posted was a pretty straight forward explanation from Micay with Louise basically dismissing the entire thing with "You dont get to bully people' Without even reading the comments. It's clear louise is upset or scared and gaslighting his audience about this entire thing.
He actually accused him of being willing to sabotage his entire OS just to target one person on an OPEN SOURCE Project. He also weaponized his self admitted autism diagnosis and used it to slander a talented developer.
"Louise basically dismissing the entire thing with "You dont get to bully people' Without even reading the comments."
> This is either a troll, or a very dishonest take ? Rossmann literally reads his messages in the video, as well as his own answers, and explain his rationale for distancing himself from the project.
Yes, he is "scared", because Micay comes out of the blue to accuse him of supporting "murder attempts" against his person, and to "publicly expose Louis" for all the wrong he has allegedly done to him (Micay).
At the cost of using a very simplistic analogy, if the cook at the restaurant I eat daily keeps threatening retribution for unfounded reason, I will make sure to not only stop eating there, but make others know the situation in case something happens to me.
