II know two things now beyond a shadow of a doubt:
1. For anyone who speculated as to what they would have done in the Holocaust, we know the answer. And in WW2 information was harder to come by so an awful lot more people could reasonably claim ignorance. Now? It's livestreamed in 4K HD; and
2. An awful lot of people are going to lie to their grandchildren about what went on in the 2020s and whether or not they supported it.
As heinous as the terror attacks on October 7, I want people to keep this in mind:
1. This didn't begin on October 7, 2023. Arguably it began in 1947 and it's been 75 years of systematic terror, starvation and brutal violence that has no point abated. In the 2006-2023 era, there were intentional campaigns called "mowing the grass" and "putting Palestinians on a diet". The latter involved carefully controlling hthe amount of calories allowed to be imported into Gaza (eg [1]) while absolutely ensuring they would never be food self-sufficient.
2. Israel has done an October 7 every day since October 7;
3. At any point on every day since October 8, the US government could've put a stop to this with a phone call or a press release. They're not ignorant of what's going on. They like what's going on. The state of Israel simply cannot function without the largesse of the US. It would collapse overnight; and
4. Netanyahu is not a bad applie here. He is broadly representative of Israeli society and politics. Many call this the "liberal Zionist ripcord". Israeli is an incredibly violent settler colonial project and that simply cannot exist without it being broadly popular or at least acceptable.
