The MPEG-4 file format is .mov, and MPEG-4 onwards are open standards.



I'm pretty sure he meant patent free open standards or freely licensed patents open standards.


And MPEG-4 Systems (the file format) is a patent-free open standard!


Is it? I thought it was just not actively monetized via licence and left as a gray area, like so many other things related to royalty-bearing codecs.
