I think the sweat spot is 6K. Which would probably cover 98% to 99% of people rather than current 95%. And still be good enough for the 1-2% left out.

>but in my subjective testing with image sizes you would typically see on the web, avif wins every single time.

What is that in terms of bpp? Because according to Google Chrome 80-85% of we deliver images with bpp of 1.0 or above. I don't think most people realise that.

And in most if not all circumstances, jpeg XL performs better than AVIF at bpp 1.0 and above tested by professionals.

For reference, Brazil have adopted VVC / H.266 + LCEVC as their TV 3.0 codec preference.

AV2 will be out soon.

AV2 may be out "soon", but if roll-out and adoption of AV1 is any guide, it won't be widely available very soon at all. I applause the promise of AV2 and AV1 is great, but its just not a soon thing IMHO.

Agree. I am hoping they have learned their lesson not only just on roll out but a lot of other things.

I really wish Intel would just open source the 80386. ( Or perhaps most of the x86-64 ).

In terms of Labour, the number one cost of a node is R&D. And that is happening in Taiwan not in US.

And if US could somehow provide lower electricity cost to Fabs, which is the number one cost in production, it will offset a lot of expensive items on the list. The actual labour cost for running the Fab is comparatively small.

In case this still isn't common knowledge. You should always use WiFi 7 hardware as the latest WiFi 6E solution. I.e Latest Generation of WiFi is the best version of last generation.

Just like when WiFi 6 came out, OFDMA didn't work well or wasn't even turned on by default. The same thing happened with WiFi 5 MU-MIMO, and WiFi 7 MLO. Expect the MLO to only work with WiFi 8.

And for all the latency reduction and reliability upgrade with WiFi 8? The expect them to work well in WiFi 9.

That is increasingly true and will only get more mainstream as times comes by. Why pay for Home WiFi. ( Internet ) when you have 5G / Mobile Data. 5GSA will further increase Mobile network capacity, and mobile network will be all you need. MNOs will specially those without cable / fibre to home infrastructure are already promoting 5G home solution as replacement.

I wouldn't be able to do what I do at home if I had to do it entirely through a mobile network. I have a 10 Gbps symmetrical fibre-to-the-home connection.

We will soon have 256 Zen 6c per socket, so at least 512 Core per server. Multiple PCIe 5.0 SSD at 14GB/s at up to half a Petabytes storage, and TBs of Memory.

And now Nvidia is in the game for Sever CPU, much faster time to market for PCIe in the future, and better x86 CPU implementation as well as ARM variants.

I am starting to think if there are any business opportunities to brand "European Standard" Food as Healthy Options in the US.

>I really like the Chris Seaton callout

I miss him. And I really hope someday TruffleRuby will succeed and become mainstream or at least 2nd only to Cruby.

I miss him too. We knew each other online for some time, but that was the first time I ever met him in person. I came back and couldn’t stop talking about him to my wife when she asked how the conf went. Truly an inspiring experience.

I hope truffle ruby does well, too. But even if it doesn’t, he’s still made an impact on me, and on the community. I told him “thank you” to his face when we met. I also wish I could have also somehow let him know my thanks and appreciation was unconditional.
