Do you mean 6 A/C units ? I. e. 6 outdoor and indoor units

regardless, this is incredibly cheap

Mini-splits these days are available as multi-head (I think that’s the term) units, where a single outside unit can supply 2,4, or 6 units individually and independently.

They’re remarkable, and I would go for a mini-split system over a central unit 100 times out of 100.

> where a single outside unit can supply 2,4, or 6 units individually and independently

In my current home, I have two "heads" attached to a single outside unit, but they cannot operate independently beyond setting different fan speeds or closing the vent really. If one of the mini-splits is set to heat and the other switches to cooling, they will booth start cooling, or vice versa, the head units just blindly blow air over what ever is being pumped through the line and the last unit to send a command to switch mode "wins".

Maybe there are clever heat pumps that truly allow fully independent control of the head unit when connected to multiple heads, but given the flow of refrigerant has to reverse direction completely when switching between heating and cooling, I don't see how they can operate fully independently when they are sharing the same refrigerant lines.

There is only one reversing valve inside the outside unit for all the head units connected to one outside unit in my experience, but would love to see examples of systems that do permit this if they exist.

An extra clever system would include every temperature controlled appliance in the house. Heat could be exchanged between the hvac, water heater, refrigerator, and oven.

When the oven is done cooking it can dump heat into the water heater (and or furnace in the winter). The fridge and HVAC could dump heat into the water heater before pumping it outside in the summer.

By “independently” I meant that one room could be heating/cooling while other rooms aren’t doing anything at all. Or one room could be warmer/cooler than another.

As opposed to central unit’s all-or-nothing approach.

It's units in 6 different rooms (3 bed, office, living, dining) so 6 sets of units.

After reading some other comments I realize one vital detail is that they were installed in a renovated house that already had suitable holes to the outside and power outlets where the units were going, so the install job was just mounting the units, pulling the tubing and gassing it, no cutting things up or doing electrical work.

The price would at least double if we needed all the holes cut open, and I have no idea what the electrical work would cost.

It’s very normal here in Portugal. If you looked carefully and weren’t picky about the brands, you could have 6 mini-splits installed for $3000 all-in.

Parent mentioned $600 for the install. I live in Portugal as well, paid around $500 for ~one~ mini split A/C install

I would expect that installing six is maybe twice as expensive as installing one. All the overhead of scheduling the technician, traveling to the location, getting the tools out, etc stay the same. Installing six is vastly more efficient and that should be reflected in the price

GP still got an amazing deal

Maybe I wasn't clear but when I commented, I meant to say you could buy and have installed 6 mini-splits for $3000 (machines included).

While on the topic, I'm looking for some AR / VR platform to help with my child (11 yo) severe flight anxiety.

Does anyone have any recommendations on the matter ? would be super helpful as we have a flight coming soon (2 months) and I can already see her anxiety levels rising.

I've been using it to create an RSS feed of all the real estate companies websites in my area to get a competitive edge when new properties are being published.

Works great

I started having tinnitus right after a COVID infection.

it's not too bad, only one ear and it comes and goes pretty quickly.

For me the COVID correlation is 100%, but I haven't found too much literature about it and wonder if anyone experienced it as well

Partial hearing loss is a not uncommon side effect of COVID infection, and tinnitus a not uncommon side effect of hearing loss. Anything that causes inflammation in the wrong areas can do it, but COVID is the main one right now and why audiologists are busy. There is a steroid treatment that apparently can help if prescribed almost immediately (48 hours?), but it didn't help in a family members case.

Mine started after covid also, see further up tho it actually recently stopped and i couldn't figure out what had changed apart from taking a complex b supplement for a couple months.. Cant hurt maybe?

Here in southern Europe on the other hand, cash is a crucial part of the tax evasion economy

That is partially why the banks/government in Sweden have been happy to phase it out. Companies also don't like dealing with cash because it requires extra accounting, security, and transportation. In the early 2000s there were about 50 cash transport robberies per year in Sweden, in 2018 there was 1.

> Companies also don't like dealing with cash because it requires extra accounting, security, and transportation.

At least in the US, individual businesses don't like dealing with credit because of the transaction fees but are kind of forced to thanks to everybody else taking credit everywhere.

Of course, the big chains love credit and are happy to pay the transaction cost because it lets them audit all the transactions and increase their control over local managers and employees. Presumably, the big chains also negotiate lower fees.

Somewhat tangential (sorry), but in my part of southern Europe, cash change machines seem to be getting close to ubiquitous.

I wonder if that hinders tax evasion at all since there's presumably a pretty reliable paper trail of cash transactions.

You mean ATMs ? It is still harder to prove where the cash you took out of the ATM went to in comparison to card payments, but yeah, if you take a big amount of cash out of the ATM then it would be easy to flag you

No, I mean the machines that now handle cash payments at many businesses, accepting cash and returning change.

They're increasingly common here in Portugal, at least.

ah got it. these are mostly mechanical I think and are offline / dumb device as far as I know

can you expand on how you use shadcn UI with MCP?

I add the MCP server (https://ui.shadcn.com/docs/mcp)

Then I instruct the coding agent to use shadcn / choose the right component from shadcn component registry

The MCP server has a search / discovery tool, and it can also fetch individual components. If you tell the AI agent to use a specific component, it will fetch it (reference doc here: https://ui.shadcn.com/docs/components)

doesn't it add significant weight to the price ?

They simply adjust the tare weight in the scale and that's it. They do it anyway with their own 1-use plastic boxes or sheets.

I've never seen a meat counter employee re-zero the scale after putting a container or wrap on it. I do occasionally see them reading -0.1oz or something initially, presumably to avoid the need for the employees to zero it out each time they weigh something.

My feeling is that they have a few presets available for the containers they use, but it totally can be changed to a custom one.

For fruits and vegetables - Why is a bag needed at all ?

I just put my fruits and vegetables directly on the conveyor belt.

For most you don't. But if you buy loose cherry tomatoes, having 30 of them rolling around everywhere isn't exactly practical.

Thats easily solved though by simple buying some reusable fruit/veggie net. Essentially the same as what you would use for socks or underwear in the laundry.

I've been using black thumbs up until now without realizing it's a racial thing... and I'm white.

are you telling me I've been offending people?

Depends where you work. Personally, I will think it is odd, then move on. But your HR department may have a different view.

If it is a personal slack, then have fun!

I'm a big fan of the rainbow thumbs up because I like rainbows.

Har har har

compare that to a heat pump with 200-500 % efficiency I guess
